SUMMER EXHIBITION
Saturday 24th May - Friday 4th July 2008
The 1st Floor Gallery is pleased to present their “Summer Exhibition” from 24th May 2008.

We are delighted to be showcasing the work of Suffolk portrait and landscape artist John Glover. Born in Scotland in 1945, John studied at the Glasgow School of Art from 1963 - 1967 and at Jordanhill College of Further Education from 1967 - 1968. In 1992 he completed a BA Arts Degree with the Open University.
For 10 years he worked as a freelance book illustrator in London for such publishers as Hamlyn, Oxford University Press and Macmillan. Since 1980 he has concentrated on his love of portraiture.
John is a highly accomplished and experienced portrait painter. His subjects have included people from all walks of life, from grand official portraits of academic Masters or Chairmen of Councils to smaller, more intimate family groups or individual studies. His work ranges from portraits in which he has captured the character and dignity of age, to others portraying the innocence of childhood. He works in all mediums from pencil to watercolour, pastel to oils.
John is also an estimable landscape painter and has exhibited widely. "I love working out of doors and battling with the elements. My paintings capture windswept Scottish beaches, vast East Anglian skies, the glowing colours of France and the magic of Venice".

We are also pleased to feature the work of the following Guest Artists:

Jonathan has over 16 years experience as a teacher and lecturer, and has taught in local and national adult education colleges as well as various countries around the world such as Greece, Cyprus, Spain, France and Italy. He has exhibited nationally and internationally and has paintings in various collections both at home and abroad.

Heather Joliffe was born in the heart of the New Forest, a place which, along with the Hampshire and Dorset coastline, continues to be a source of inspiration for her artwork. After studying painting at the Royal Academy Schools of Art, her specialism in British wildlife and landscape developed. Using watercolours, acrylics and drawing media, her work reflects experiences and observations from sketching trips to her favourite natural locations around the country.
Heather has artwork in private and public collections, such as the Lee Valley Park Art Collection, demonstrates for Derwent pencils, runs her own art classes and workshops, and teaches for the Open College of Art.
Jon Adkin was born in 1962 and grew up in London but now lives in Suffolk. His interest in art started whilst at secondary school and his enthusiasm is as great as ever.
Early on he worked mainly in cartooning and illustrations, and had a weekly topical cartoon in a local paper. His cartoons could be seen in the national tabloids both here and abroad and his work has been published in books and national magazines.
Jon enjoys experimenting with different styles and techniques, and has a naturally creative mind. Inspirations for his art come from many different avenues, from stunning landscapes and rolling seas, to a moving piece of music. He loves playing around with colour in his work; from calming pastels to vivid sunset creations. Working mainly with acrylics and watercolours, Jon also enjoys using pastels as an alternative media.
This is the Gallery’s first feature show and we welcome both the casual browser and the serious art collector to view this stunning array of works.
